Claim against a local authority for deceit and breach of public procurement law
Mike Wilson recently acted in a high profile claim against a local authority for deceit and breach of public procurement law in relation to a procurement competition for a major entertainment and sporting arena.
The claimant alleged that the procurement competition was essentially a sham and that the local authority induced it, by fraudulent misrepresentation, to enter into and remain in the competition notwithstanding that it planned to develop the arena itself. The value of the claimant’s land dropped dramatically during the time it was involved in the competition and that claimant claimed damages of around £45 million. The case was heard by the High Court over seven weeks in October 2012 and the Judgment is awaited.
