Between 24 – 28 June, it is Injury Awareness Week 2024, an entire week dedicated to raising essential awareness and getting involved with activities that help provide sufferers and the wider public with knowledge that can help change lives. This year APIL’s campaign is focusing on the impact of avoidable workplace injuries. Read on to learn more about injury awareness and how the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) is building public support that strives to minimise the impact made on all victims of negligence.
When discussing Injury Awareness, it is first necessary to define the kind of accidents APIL and other organisations are looking to raise awareness for. Accidents are commonplace and sadly a fact of life, be it a child who finally touches the hot oven or someone who takes a nasty fall on the ice. They are, throughout the course of one’s life, to be expected, and there is little one can do to prevent them.
However, there is a crucial difference between the types of accidents explained above and the unfortunate events that occur when we put our well-being into the hands of others, only to be met with disaster, whether it be by careless motorists, failure in duty of care from an employer, or negligent medical professionals who are treating us.
According to a YouGov survey commissioned by APIL last year, more than 30,000 people in the UK believe themselves to be injured by negligence each week. This is a staggering number, and we hope that by doing more to raise awareness within the communities and working alongside the wonderful charities that do so much to provide crucial guidance and support to those who have had their lives affected, we can make a positive change.
Patients are entitled to the peace of mind that comes with knowing that they won’t walk away from their treatment with worse health than what they started with, and in the same respect, your employer has a duty to make sure you make it home from the workplace unharmed.
It is important to remain mindful of the fact that injuries (the type that could have been avoided) can happen to anyone. This Injury Awareness Week 2024, we hope to encourage people to remain conscious of the impact these injuries have on the people suffering from them and the injustice of being needlessly affected as a result of another’s negligence.
You can keep up to date with APIL’s Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn channels as well as their own Injury Awareness Week Facebook page, where you can find lots more content and more details on how you can get involved in the 2024 campaign regarding workplace safety and preventable injury.

Bridge McFarland LLP is a Lexcel-accredited law firm, and multiple solicitors in our personal injury team are professionally accredited by the Law Society and APIL.
An injury of this kind doesn’t only have an emotional and physical impact, but more often than not, a financial one too. Hopefully, the injuries either yourself or a loved one have sustained are small and will heal in time. Some injuries, however, can be life-changing, if not fatal. Furthermore, it is essential to note that not all the damage that can be inflicted on a person is visible; many injuries are psychological and can have just as much of an effect on a victim’s ability to live their life as physical injuries.
Our experienced solicitors can provide you and your family with specialist legal advice if you or someone you care about has suffered an injury from an accident at work, road traffic accident, medical negligence or any other accident that wasn’t your fault. Claiming compensation can help meet your needs following a serious injury and help you access further support.
