Work Placements
How many Work Placements do you offer?
We do not have a set number of Work Placements available. We will always try to offer a Work Placement opportunity to those who impress.
Do I have to do the Work Placement in a specific office?
We will work with you to find the office most suitable for your Work Placement. It is unlikely that you will need to attend other offices during the Work Placement.
Will I be paid for attending the Work Placement?
Yes, you will be paid for the initial placement and any subsequent placements where we request that you return for a further period.
When do you run the Work Placements?
We run these throughout the year working around school, college and university holidays (March / April, Summer and December)
Will I experience different areas during the Work Placement?
We try to accommodate your wishes however, this is dependent on capacity and business needs.
What type of work will I do during the Work Placement?
There will be a mix of tasks including administrative, shadowing, research and drafting.
What do you want to see from me if I am given a Work Placement?
We want people with a “can-do” attitude who will fit in with our staff and clients. Focus and ambition are important but so is humility and a degree of understanding that you are coming into a busy work environment.
Can I still come for a Work Placement if I am not ready to start a Training Contract / Apprenticeship?
Absolutely. We have a number of people who come for a Work Placement during the second or third years of their undergraduate degrees.
Training Contracts
How many Training Contracts do you have available?
We do not have a set number of Training Contracts available. It is more important to us to get the right candidates than the right number of candidates.
Do you offer Time to Count?
Yes, where appropriate.
Will I get a say in which seats I do?
You will. We try to accommodate your wishes when looking at seats, but business needs will also be a consideration as will your willingness to travel to other Bridge McFarland offices to ensure appropriate supervision can be provided.
Will I get a say in which office I work out of?
For the most part, you will be encouraged to work at the office most local/convenient for you. The only exceptions will be business needs or a wish to experience a specialism not offered at your local office.
Do Training Contracts start at the same time every year?
No. We take on Trainees throughout the year.
Graduate Apprenticeships
How many Graduate Apprenticeships do you have available?
We do not have a set number of Graduate Apprenticeships available. It is more important to us to get the right candidates than the right number of candidates.
Who can apply for the Graduate Apprenticeship?
You are required to have:-
A 2:1 honours degree in law, or
A 2:1 honours degree in a non-law subject and at least a pass in a PGDL/GDL
Do I have to pay to complete the Graduate Apprenticeship?
No. The Graduate Apprenticeship is completed funded.
Will I be given time off to complete the Graduate Apprenticeship?
Yes. One day a week will be a study day.
At the end of the Graduate Apprenticeship, can I qualify as a solicitor?
Yes, subject to passing SQE1 and SQE2. You will gain your Qualifying Work Experience during the apprenticeship period.
How is the Graduate Apprenticeship delivered?
Online teaching, coaching, and workplace development.
Solicitor Apprenticeship
How many Solicitor Apprenticeships do you have available?
We do not have a set number of Solicitor Apprenticeships available. It is more important to us to get the right candidates than the right number of candidates.
Who can apply for the Solicitor Apprenticeship?
The minimum entry requirements for the programme are:
Three A-Levels (128 UCAS points) and five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English and mathematics (or equivalent).
Our entry requirements are at least 5 GCSEs at grade B / 6 and above and 3 A-Levels at grades A, B, B (or above).
Do I have to pay to complete the Solicitor Apprenticeship?
No. The Solicitor Apprenticeship is completely funded.
Will I be given time off to complete the Solicitor Apprenticeship?
Yes. One day a week will be a study day.
At the end of the Solicitor Apprenticeship, can I qualify as a solicitor?
